Hotmail was developed in 1996 and ever since it has seen great improvements. Since its acquisition by Microsoft in 1997, many features have been introduced. These features have enabled the users to use and navigate the account with ease.

Before you can enjoy these great features, it is important you know the different features and how to use them. One of the features that has been introduced is in the security department. You can now log in to your account using a single code instead of the password. This process will help you to keep your account safe. The code will be sent upon request to your account. You will however need to be careful with the code. This is because Microsoft has limited the number of codes, one can request. The other security measure Microsoft have introduced  is the 2 step verification process. This process has been developed to add a layer of protection to the account. In this process, you will be able to log in to your account with your normal log in details and one extra code.

  • Log in to your account.
  • On the right hand side, click on the account settings.
  • You will be directed to a new page, click on the security and privacy option that is located at the top of the page.
  • Click on the ‘more settings’.
  • Once the page opens, scroll down and click on the set up 2 step verification process.
  • You will be directed to a new page. Read the instructions that have been given and click on next.
  • A new page will open prompting you to choose the method you will want to receive the code. You may choose the app, phone number or the alternative email option. For efficiency, you may choose the phone number option. You will be required to enter the phone number beginning with your code.
  • Choose the verification options, that is, do you want to receive your code through text or automated call.
  • Follow the instructions that follow.
